Perdido por 1.600 años, los cuartos reales de Cleopatra fueron descubiertos en las costas de Alejandría. Un equipo de arqueólogos marinos, encabezados por el francés, Franck Goddio, comenzó a excavar la antigua ciudad en 1998. Los historiadores creen que el sitio fue sumergida por los terremotos y maremotos, sin embargo, sorprendentemente, varios artefactos permaneció casi intacta. Entre los descubrimientos fueron los cimientos del palacio, los naufragios, las columnas de granito rojo, y estatuas de la diosa Isis y la Esfinge una. El Gobierno egipcio planea crear un museo bajo el agua y mantener visitas del sitio.
